Why atheism and not agnosticism:
It’s scientific. Scientific method shows that we look at what we observe. No sign of god. Ergo, no god. On current information. If this changes, and we see signs of a god, then that’s great — science works! Your ideas are not set in stone with science.
Sitting on the fence is another thing. You aren’t really deciding anything. It’s neither one way or the other, and you’re unwilling to put any trust in scientific method.
The situation seems muddled if you just say agnostic — it’s a belief that on current evidence available, there is no sign of a god. So to say that you think there still may perhaps be a god, but just can’t see one, shows lack of ability or trust in your science.
Lack of thought also. Saying you’re atheist shows that you’re willing to put some thought into the argument. Agnosticism is more like vague Christianity — it’s easier to be this way, since it means that you have to think less, and challenge less.
