Panic at Nokia

So, I’ve just read that Nokia has revealed some new handsets and new a music download service. Set to take on the iPhone, huh? Set to make Apple laugh, more like.

Firstly, the idea of downloading songs over mobile networks may be good for some, but many prefer to keep their music a bit separate from the mobile technologies. And those that do like the idea may be put off with the pricing and often slow speed involved in the process.

I’ve also read at Red Herring that they’re using WMA files, for openness or something. Funny, pretty much every Nokia phone shipped in the last few years (certainly in Europe) has come with great compatibility with AAC. Why use WMA now?

Then they tout a new vapourware touch screen phone, due for release next year.

This whole thing seems very rushed to me. They saw the iPhone and didn’t get any sleep for a month.
